Under our opt-in Offset Gas product, the emissions we offset from your natural gas usage do not extend to other services associated with your account, including those from third parties.
*Whilst carbon offsets such as ACCUs may help offset greenhouse gas emissions, they do not prevent emissions that are released from burning fossil fuels. Even with carbon offsetting, the emissions released from burning fossil fuels for a customer’s energy use still contribute to climate change.
Our opt-in Offset Gas product has been certified by Climate Active, a government-backed certification scheme for businesses, as Lumo Energy will purchase Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to help offset the emissions associated with your natural gas usage.
In simple terms, Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) are a way for organisations to help "offset" their carbon emissions by buying units from projects that reduce or remove carbon from the atmosphere. Each ACCU represents a reduction or removal of one metric tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent from the atmosphere, however carbon offsets such as ACCUs do not prevent emissions that are released through burning fossil fuels. Even with carbon offsetting, the emissions released from burning fossil fuels for a customer’s energy use still contribute to climate change.
