Solar Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Eligibility

To be eligible to receive your FiT for excess electricity exported to the grid:

  • Be a residential or business customer of Lumo Energy
  • Have solar panels installed
  • We have received confirmation from your electricity distributor that your solar panel system has been connected to the distribution system.

South Australia All Market Offers: 2 cents/kWh
 Standing Offer: 2 cents/kWh
 
Victoria Market Offers:
 Lumo Plus: 1 cent/kWh
 Lumo Value: 1 cent/kWh
 Victorian Default Offer: 1 cent/kWh

Solar FiT includes GST (where applicable). If you receive a Government FiT, any additional FiT offered by Lumo may vary from those specified above, see ‘Government rebates and schemes’ below or contact us for details.

Changes to solar Feed-in Tariff (FiT)

Our solar FiT is subject to change. We will send you a written notice of any rate change before it affects you.

There are a number of factors taken into consideration for the change to your solar FiT including actual and projected wholesale costs.

Government rebates and schemes

There are a number of past solar schemes which offer eligible customers a higher solar buy back rate. These schemes often operate in addition to the ‘retailer’ FiT offered by Lumo and contain strict eligibility criteria set by the relevant state government.

If you have a FiT with your existing retailer that we are required to carryover we will do so.

What is solar energy and what is it used for?

What is a solar feed-in tariff?

A solar feed-in tariff is a credit customers on eligible solar plans receive for excess electricity that their solar photovoltaic (PV) system generates and exports to the power grid. A solar feed-in tariff is credited per kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity that is exported to the grid, and appears as a credit on your electricity bill.

Why are solar feed-in tariffs decreasing?

As more solar panels are installed on rooftops, more solar energy is being sent back into the electricity grid during the day. At the same time, energy use is often lower during these daylight hours. This means there is less demand for electricity when solar is generating the most, which pushes wholesale electricity prices down. Because of this, the extra solar energy sent to the grid during the day is not worth as much and lower feed-in tariffs may be offered.

Is there a regulated minimum feed-in tariff rate in Victoria?

Previously the Essential Services Commission (ESC) set the minimum feed-in tariff in Victoria. As of 1 July 2025, electricity retailers may set their own feed-in tariffs. The feed-in tariff cannot be less than zero ($0.00/kWh).

How can I make the most of the electricity I generate?

To maximize your solar savings, it is best to use as much of your own generated electricity as possible. Here’s how you can make the most of your solar energy:

  • Run appliances during peak solar hours where possible - Use your washing machine, dishwasher, and other appliances when your solar PV system is producing electricity.
  • Charge devices and batteries - Plug in phones, laptops, and home batteries during the day to store power for later.
  • Monitor your solar output - Many solar PV systems have apps that show how much power you’re producing, helping you plan energy use.
