The opening of the Tailem Bend Solar Project signals good news for Lumo Energy customers in South Australia, who will be the beneficiaries of the 200,000 MWh of renewable energy the farm will generate each year.
Lumo Energy is owned by Snowy Hydro Limited, which owns and operates the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme, and has backed the Tailem Bend project with a 22 year commitment for 100 percent of the project's energy output. It’s estimated the solar farm will meet the needs of Lumo Energy’s 40,000 electricity customers in South Australia.
“Snowy Hydro’s backing of the Tailem Bend project reflects its commitment to delivering a better energy deal for households and businesses in South Australia, and has provided a great boost for the local economy” said Iain Graham, CEO of Lumo Energy.
“This project brings more electricity generation into the South Australian market, helping to improve reliability and helping Lumo Energy bring prices down for households and businesses”.
“It is a tangible demonstration of Lumo Energy’s long-term commitment to being a local retailer in and around Adelaide” Mr Graham said.
Lumo Energy has been retailing electricity in the South Australian market since 2005. Last year it added gas to its retail energy offering, bringing further competition to the retail market.
